Why Shakespeare?

The title of the site comes from a line spoken by Aaron the Moor in Titus Andronicus.

Begun in the pandemic year of 2020, this blog presents the public writing of undergraduate students at Clark University in Dr. Justin Shaw's literature courses. These short writings showcase student intellectual critiques that question the place of Shakespeare and early modern literature in the world today. They also demonstrate how representations of race, gender, disability, sexuality, and more in the old literary texts continue to matter for discussions and debates around these topics in our own time.
